Tips for staying healthy

Wash, wash, wash your hands.
This is still the best defense against illness.  Encourage your children to wash, especially before meals, using soap and warm water. To ensure they are taking enough time to adequately kill germs, have them sing the ABC song while scrubbing.

Rest up.
School age children should get 9-11 hours of sleep each night.  Grownups should try to get 8 hours.

Drink and eat.
Lots of fluids and a balanced diet - especially breakfast!  I'm seeing a lot of children with stomachaches and headaches due to hunger.

Dress appropriately.
Especially during cold weather, please help your child choose warm, comfortable clothing every day, including socks.  Make sure they are wearing a coat; you may want to consider a hat and gloves as well.

Get some fresh air.
Even in cool weather, children need the exercise and fresh air during recess.

Unfortunately, even with the best of care, a virus can make us sick.

Cold symptoms are best relieved with rest and fluids and may last as long as 10 days.

If symptoms persist longer than this, your child should see a physician.

Your child should stay home if they have these symptoms.

  • Fever of 100° or higher
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Frequent cough
  • Undiagnosed rash accompanied by a fever
  • Ear pain and/or eye drainage
  • Sore throat with a fever and/or rash

*Children should not come back to school until their temperature is normal for 24 hours without medication.

Please call if you have any questions or would like to discuss your child's illness.

If you have a change in address or phone number, remember update your contact information on Infinite Campus. We must be able to reach you if your child becomes ill at school.

Allergy policy:

"Not sharing is caring"

There are students in the district with severe food allergies, who will require emergency medical intervention if they were to come into contact with their allergen.

We have a policy of "Not Sharing is Caring."  This means that students may not share any food with anyone in the classroom or cafeteria.
